Jesus said in John 13, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” This statement, along with Jesus’ imperative for His followers to love their neighbors, sums up the goal of Hope for LA’s annual events. We serve together to show our love for our city and for one another.
Therefore, our annual events intentionally bring volunteers together from many churches around Los Angeles to serve the city. While Hope for LA’s main mission and focus is to mobilize people to serve local organizations and meet community needs consistently throughout the year, our annual events offer a special opportunity to galvanize a larger number of volunteers and resources to make an impact on our city.
Here are the main annual events which we coordinate:
- Boxes of Love gives people an opportunity to fill a box or two with a Thanksgiving meal for a family in need in our city. These boxes go to trusted ministries and are each delivered by caring Christians. The goal of Boxes of Love is not only to meet a hunger need but to connect these families with ministries in their area that have ongoing physical, spiritual and relational resources available. You can find out more here.
- Serve the City is a multi-church, city-wide volunteer day of projects in July that supports local organizations and meets community needs. It has grown from a day of 5 projects mobilizing 75 volunteers to 100 projects mobilizing 1,700 volunteers in 2012. You can find out more at:www.ServeTheCityLA.com
Volunteers are always needed for planning and leading these events. If you are interested in attending or being involved in organizing please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
